This research has piloted a tool for assessing the cultural impact of sub-division on ancestral Māori land. Local government authorities have said they often find it difficult to incorporate the outcomes of consultation with Māori because the information is too complex and diverse. This tool provides a method for not only capturing the content of mātauranga Māori points-of-view but also reducing the information to a score which can be easily integrated in local government RMA decisions.
