The Creative Commons

The Creative Commons is a way to protect the copyright of an author's work while allowing them to give permission for others to use and even change the resource in ways that are useful for communities.

The Clearing House enables its members to select from a range of Creative Commons licences for each resource they send us.

The Creative Commons defines a set of possibilities between full copyright (all rights reserved) and the public domain (no rights reserved). Its free public licenses allow our members to keep their copyright while inviting certain uses of their work - a "some rights reserved" copyright. That means offering some rights to the public but with certain conditions.

Our members can choose a Creative Commons licence when they send us their resources. The licences are made available to everyone else via the metadata information that accompanies every resource in The Clearing House. A link allows you to check the Creative Commons licence and what its conditions are.
